You will know you have arrived when you see this sign, and you hope that the sign has the board “Green Chili” in the mix.Wagner’s is a very unassuming building, which follows the muted desert color palette of Corrales. Don’t let this fool you, inside you will find fresh in season fresh green chili, corn, peaches, watermelon, onions, and whatever is in season.This is my view from the porch. Red chilis hang in the afternoon sun as I write this. These chilis had not dried out too much and I enjoyed one while punching keys on the laptop. The pepper I had must have been medium in heat. The first few bites were the sweetest pepper I have ever had, but as I approached the seeds, the heat built perfectly.If you are lucky enough to make it to Wagner’s, you are lucky enough! The Wagner family and people of Corrales are down to earth kind people. As I was leaving, they offered me these enchiladas. I said sure, and asked who made them. One of the Wagner’s who was outside roasting 40 bushels of green chilis said, “I don’t know, someone dropped them off and we have one extra tray!”I chose to take the dirt road back to the bus in Albuquerque. This is the perfect way to enjoy this area if you have the time. This road runs on the west side of Corrales. As you can see, there is no water for irrigation, and their harvest and yield this year reflects this fact.
